Ian Rankin - Scots based author best known for his Inspector Rebus sequence of novels set around Edinburgh

Christopher Brookmyre - Another Scots author, known for his humour and over the top violence.

Lawrence Block - Prolific mystery author; writes the Matt Scudder Mysteries, the Burglar books, the Tanner adventures and many other one offs and series.

Ed McBain - Author of the superb 87th Precinct novels and the Mathew Hope mysteries

George Pelecanos - One of the absolute best new crime authors; hardboiled, hip and endlessly absorbing

Raymond Chandler - One of the most influential crime writers; probably best known for his Marlowe novels

Dashiell Hammet - Another influential pulp crime writer, creator of the Continental Op and a real life PI himself.

Val McDermid - Scots author who writes stories set mostly around the Manchester area of England. She has written several mysteries featuring PI Kate Brannigan and psychological thrillers featuring criminal profiler Tony Hill.

Anne K Edwards (mysteryfiction.net) - American author whose books include Journey into Terror and Death on Delivery

Charlie Stella - I have absolutely no agreement with the man's politics (read the knuckslines if you dare!) but he makes up for it by being one of the best new crime writers I've read for years. Tough like Elmore Leonard writing an episode of the Sopranos while being repeatedly battered about the head by George Pelecanos.

James Lee Burke - The South's lyrical crime writer, JLB's Robicheaux novels are wonderful fusions of Southern mystery and noir crime. If you don't like reading descriptions of sunsets, however, you may have a small problem - but that aside one of our favourite authors here at Crime Scene.

J.A. Konrath - New American author whose novel, Whiskey Sour, is the first in a series featuring Lt Jaqueline "Jack" Daniels.

Lise McLendon - Author of the Dorrie Lennox and Alix Thorsenn mysteries.

Linda Langwith - Author of The Golden Crusader

The Saturday Boy - Ray Banks: foul mouthed bastard, incomparable Brit Noir (or possibly lit-noir) writer and author of the Cal Innes novels.

Carol Anne Davis - Dundonian by birth and a fantastic author of crime fiction as well as several excellent true crime case studies

Elmore Leonard - why the heck haven't we linked to Leonard's website before now? You all know we think he's the goddamn bees' knees!

Ken Bruen's World - check out terrifyingly talented noir author Ken Bruen. If you don't love his work, a whole legion of his worshippers will come round to your door and beat you into submission. We here at Crime Scene have definitely seen the light...

Ken Bruen - and also Ken's real homepage; the place to keep up with the man, the myth, the legend...

Charlie Williams - Author of the twisted Deadfolk and chronicler of the shitho... um, I mean lovely wee English town... of Mangel. Check out his Blog, too, with its sporadic guest appearances by various Mangel residents but we must beg your indulgence for the frequent Rocky III references.

Russel D McLean - yes, our esteemed editor has joined the blogging community and hosts his own blog/site. Later down the line there may be a more full homepage, but for now this is the place for all the latest news regarding his literary endeavours.

Simon Kernick - London based author with several excellent, seedy and violent thrillers to his name: The Crime Trade, The Murder Exchange and A Good Day To Die

John Connolly - author of the excellent Charlie Parker series. Guaranteed to unnerve you.

John Rickards - Lives in England, writes about exFBI profiler Alex Rourke. Author of the excellent The Touch of Ghosts.

Stuart MacBride - Scots crime writer based in Aberdeen, but don't hold that against him. Author of the excellent Cold Granite. Don't mention Tellytubbies.

Steven Torres - author of the Precinct Puerto Rico Mysteries.

Barbara Seranella - Author of the Miranda "Munch" Mancini mysteries

Sean Doolittle - Author of the excellent "Burn" as well as several other mighty fine books

Sean Chercover - His first book is due out in 2006 - a name to watch!
