CRIME SCENE'S E-POSTBAG!

(Or Russel's occasionally sarcastic and sometimes insightful responses to the choiced picks of reader mail!)

May/June 2005

I think we're finally over this while "why do you give the ocasional cosy books a nice review nonsense..." But I can tell there'll be other hot topics on the way... in the meantime here are some people being very nice to us... (and yeah I know this page was late appearing but somebody fucked up with the new issue - - it may have been me!)

Fellas:

I've been looking for new crime shit recently and now I've gone and ordered up a lot of books on your reccomendations. This Charlie Stella had beteter be damn good. And Allan Guthrie, well it looks like maybe the Scots can kick arse...

Earl

Earl, trust me, with either book you won't fail to be dissapointed: Stella's the best dialogue man going and Al's an immensely gifted noir writer...

Lads:

Angel was an intense ride, but the more I think about it the more worthwhile it was. It was a terrible ride into a place where no light could penetrate, but the more I consider it the more I realise how much this guy wanted to be in hell. He was fucked as much by his own guilt as by his cellmate. Creepy stuff, but very well done.

Tim

Angel was one of those stories we spent ages thinking about when it came in. It took a brave decision to publish it, I think, because it is an incredibly uncomfortable subject matter and there is no relief throughout the tale. But it was so well told and it left the reader with so much to think about I think we would have been wrong not to publish it. But it is one of the few stories in crime scene scotland to recieve its own warning! So Mr Conway has achieved a first there!

Gentlemen:

There's dark and then there's the appalling Angel. I am sure this author is a fine writer, but surely there's no need for such disturbing fiction to find an audience? Where was the morality to this story?

Some people get it, some people don't. You can't say we didn't warn you about the content. But I think the point of Angel was to raise questions of morality and punishment. Although the levels of violence were extremely uncomfortable, hence the warning tag.

Russ and Doug:

We want more Morrow! Now Doug may be a little dark, but this guy, he's where the twisted's really at...

Harry

Your wish is our command... really... he's back in this issue!

Anyway, boys and girls keep those comments coming. We love to hear from you.
